Q: What’s your name?
A: Katelyn Bryda

Q: And what is your official title at Waltham Pest Services?
A: Commercial Service Technician

Q: What are your responsibilities?
A: Solving new and unique problems daily. Giving customers the best service and relief from pest related issues.

Q: What year did you start working at Waltham?
A: 2020, which is the best thing to come out of 2020 for me!

Q: How many years have you been working in this industry?
A: About 4 years

Q: What relevant positions did you hold before Waltham?
A: I’ve worked for other pest control companies in the past but have always loved animals and the natural world. I’ve worked with horses on farms as well as in landscaping.

Q: What is your education background?
A: Some college. I do have a PhD in Google searches and Wikipedia reading sprees. 🙂

Q: Do you have any relevant certifications or specialties?
A: I have my operator’s licenses for pest control in MA and CT. However, I am excited to get my Supervisory License in the State of CT!

Q: Have you received any relevant awards?
A: At my former company, I received Rookie of the Year.

Q: Are there any interesting projects you’ve worked on that you’d like to include?
A: Yes, there was a retirement home I was sent to that was complaining about fruit flies in their kitchen. The staff had been getting bitten for over 11 years every spring like clockwork. They had been through numerous pest control companies that insisted they were fruit flies, and fruit flies don’t bite. Upon closer inspection I noticed these weren’t flies at all. They were actually Hypoponeran ant swarmers. Not only are they quite rare in New England, but they also produce a nasty bite. The staff was not crazy and I’m happy to say, after a proper treatment to the foundation akin to a termite treatment, they have not had any issues with these pests again. A proper ID is the start to a proper solution.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to include?
A: This line of work is extremely rewarding. I wouldn’t trade this job for the world.
