Why Have Routine Pest Control Done at Your Home?

We sat down with Blake Genetti, Residential Service Manager & Sales Representative, to talk about home pest control. Of course, it’s important to think pest control if you see an abundance of pests or you already have an infestation, but are there ways to prevent them in the first place? Maybe there’s a way to head off an infestation at the pass? Blake has been with Waltham Pest Services for 11 years now. Not only can he answer these questions, but he knows plenty of other strategies that can help keep our homes safe and healthy for our family members – even the furry ones. If you want the real story, talk to an expert. So, we did.

Q: Hi Blake – thanks for taking the time to talk to us. You’ve been with Waltham Pest Services quite a while. What’s the craziest pest situation you’ve ever seen?

A: I would have to say carpenter ants. It wasn’t really a situation – but those pests are crazy on their own. People don’t realize they will climb trees and powerlines and “paratrooper” to roofs. Once they do that, they will have satellite nests in attics and under insulation. Next thing you know they are coming out of your bathroom fan vents!

Q: Well that’s something we didn’t know about those pests! Is there any way to prevent it from happening?

A: They definitely can be deterred by inspections and preventative treatments. Homeowners should keep all trees and bushes trimmed at least 18 inches away from their houses. And to stop “paratrooping,” make sure there are no branches overhanging the roof lines at any point, Also, our Green Home Care Plan includes treatment for carpenter ants, so that would be a good way to get in front of them.

Q: It sounds like a Green Home Care Plan is an effective way to help prevent pests. What pests does it cover?

A: Our Green Home Care Plan covers over 20 pests including many common ones like carpenter ants, pavement ants, mice, rats, stinging insects, spiders, etc. The plan comes with seasonal routine inspections of the house to help prevent infestations. And all with green products!

Q: After hearing all this, why would someone NOT have routine service done at their home?

A: Most people don’t realize how much prevention and reoccurring inspections and service help protect the structure of their homes and potentially save them money from preventing future damage to their homes.

Q: Thanks for talking to us today. Is there anything else you think homeowners should know?

A: We offer a disinfectant service called UltiClean™. It’s for commercial buildings as well as homes. And most importantly, it uses a product that is included on the EPA’s “List N” of products that meet their criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the causal agent of Covid-19. That’s an important thing to know – especially right now. But it’s also practically non-toxic and not an irritant. Also, you don’t even have to rinse it off in the kitchen. Even where you prep food! It disinfects at a 99.99% effectiveness rate – all while leaving no film and having no odor. It’s a no-brainer right now.

Thanks so much to Blake for taking time out of his busy day to talk to us. If you think you could benefit from the Green Home Care Plan or disinfectant service like the ones Blake was discussing above, contact your local Waltham branch today.
