Backpacks Full of School Supplies & Hope

The Waltham team is about more than pest control. In addition to keeping their customers safe from pests, they make sure to be as essential to the communities where they live and work as possible. Sometimes that means helping a local food pantry. Sometimes it means collecting toys for local kids that may have woken up on Christmas morning without otherwise. This time, it meant coming together to help raise over $10,000 for backpacks and school supplies that will be handed out to local kids.

Serenity Jones, Commercial Consultant for Waltham Pest Services, members of the community, local leaders, and even the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office came together with one goal in mind: making sure local children head back to school prepared this year. The pencils, erasers, and calculators that we may take for granted will be greatly appreciated by kids that may not have had them. At the “Backpacks & Bright Futures” event, Sheriff Lew Evangelidis even recognized Harley Figueroa from Kind Kids Club – an organization she started because she was being picked last by her schoolmates for activities. She is a remarkable young lady who is wise beyond her years, and Serenity was almost as excited to meet her as she was to donate school supplies!

Serenity heard about the event from her good friend, Kate Toomey, who works at the sheriff’s office. She rushed to help out because the Waltham team knows people sometimes need help and you can’t be your best self by yourself. And Serenity is no different.

Besides all the obvious reasons to get involved in this, when we asked Serenity why she wanted to help she said, “I think it’s important to support our youth especially when it comes to education to set them up for success in life, especially the older students. They are starting to make their own choices in life, and we need to lead with positivity and support as they will be the next generation of community leaders.”

This is exactly how Waltham operates. We make sure to be involved, get together, and show up when it matters. Thank you to Serenity for being the person that showed up. It makes us proud that she’s a Waltham teammate.
