All About Meriden, CT
Meriden is a city in New Haven County, located halfway between the regional cities of New Haven and Hartford. Meriden was originally a part of the neighboring town of Wallingford. It was granted a separate meetinghouse in 1727, became a town in 1806 with over 1,000 residents. Meriden was incorporated as a city in 1867, with just under 9,000 residents. It was once proposed as the Connecticut state capital. It was named for the village of Meriden, West Midlands, England, near Birmingham. The oldest house in town still standing, built by Solomon Goffe in 1711, became a museum in 1986. The building is the Solomon Goffe House.
It’s no secret that Meriden has a rich history but it’s also a tourist destination. Art is alive and kicking in downtown Meriden. See for yourself at Gallery 53. Take a step back into history at the Meriden Historical Society Museum. Then make your way to Hubbard Park to see Castle Craig Tower. Castle Craig Tower is a stone observation tower atop East Peak in Meriden. The tower, which was dedicated on October 29, 1900, was given to the people of Meriden by Walter Hubbard, President of the Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company, and one of the most generous of the city’s philanthropic citizens. After all that, relax at Americansoul Kitchen & Bar with some true soul food. We suggest the fried chicken, smothered pork chops, the shrimp and grits, and the chicken and waffles. Leave room for banana pudding! Year round, people flock to Meriden to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Meriden, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

As the Constitution State, Connecticut is known for having everything from beaches to cities to forests. Meriden is no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our Milford, CT branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know what that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wood areas around Hubbard Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. bag of dog food!
