All About Rockland, ME

Rockland is a city and the county seat in Knox County. Abenaki Indigenous People called it Catawamteak, meaning “great landing place.” In 1767, John Lermond and his two brothers from Warren built a camp to produce oak staves and pine lumber. Thereafter known as Lermond’s Cove, it was first settled about 1769. When in 1777 Thomaston was incorporated, Lermond’s Cove became a district called Shore village. On July 28, 1848, it was set off as the town of East Thomaston. Renamed Rockland in 1850, it was chartered as a city in 1854.

It’s no secret that Rockland has a rich history but it’s also a tourist destination. When visiting Rockland, make sure to visit the Maine Lighthouse Museum. Celebrate Maine’s role in American art at the Farnsworth Art Museum. Take the little ones to the Coastal Children’s Museum where children and families have the opportunity to explore, discover, and learn all about the natural world, the arts and sciences, and the diversity of Maine’s mid-coast through play. We want to go there! After a full day like that, let someone else take care of dinner. We suggest choosing 5 or 6 nibbles from In Good Company. It’s hard to choose so, we think the marinated olives, the pea tip pesto crostini, the sweet and spicy peppadews with goat cheese, the cherry peppers with prosciutto and provolone, and the bacon wrapped dates. Then, for an entrée, you can’t go wrong with the roasted cod with celery and apple salad. But leave room for the fudge cake with strawberry sauce. Then take a nap. Year round, people flock to Rockland to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Rockland, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

Pest control services near you

Properly controlling pests in Rockland, ME should be done on a local level. Rockland’s pest issues are different than Cape Cod’s and way different than Vermont’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Waltham Pest Services. We have been servicing Maine, Connecticut, New York, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island for 130 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. And with a branch located in nearby Scarborough, our technicians, customer services representatives, and everyone else that works at that location lives and works in the area, too. Our neighbors are your neighbors, and we treat them that way.
As the Pine Tree State, Maine is known for having everything from cities to forests. Rockland is no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our Scarborough, ME branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wooded areas around Harbor Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. bag of dog food! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Rockland can help, including:
  • Bats
  • Bed bugs
