Lebanon is a town in York County. It was called Towwoh by the Newichawannock Abenaki tribe, whose main village was further down the Salmon Falls River. On April 20, 1733, the Massachusetts General Court granted Towwoh Plantation to 60 colonists, who first settled it in 1743. The township was incorporated on June 17, 1767, renamed Lebanon after the biblical land of Lebanon. It was Maine’s 23rd town. Lebanon annexed unincorporated land in 1785, and some from Sanford in 1787. It swapped land with Shapleigh, giving some in 1793, then annexing some in 1825.
Farmers found the surface of the town relatively level in the southeast, with extensive pine plains in the northwest. The chief crop would be hay. At the Salmon Falls River and the Little River were waterpower sites for mills. Lebanon had four sawmills, three gristmills, a shingle mill, a wool carding mill, and a tannery. In 1850, Oren B. Cheney founded West Lebanon Academy. Beginning in the early 1870s, the Portland and Rochester Railroad ran the length of the town’s southeast side, with the Portsmouth, Great Falls and Conway Railroad crossing for a short distance on the western side.
It’s no secret that Lebanon has a rich history but it’s also a tourist destination. If you’re in Lebanon during the right time of year, make sure to check out the thrilling and chilling Haunted Grandview Manor. Make sure your camera is charged as you take in the beautiful sights along the Cliff Walk, at the Wiggly Bridge, and on the Jetty Walk. The Hilltop Fun Center promises exactly what you expect – FUN! With laser tag, miniature golf, batting cages, go karts, and an arcade, it’s fun all year long! After a long day like that, let someone else take care of dinner. We suggest the Third Alarm Diner where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served all day long. And with something called the breakfast burger, we are not surprised. Year round, people flock to Lebanon to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Lebanon, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.
Pest control services near you
Properly controlling pests in Lebanon, ME should be done on a local level. Lebanon’s pest issues are different than Cape Cod’s and way different than Vermont’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Waltham Pest Services. We have been servicing Maine, Connecticut, New York, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island for 130 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. And with a branch located in nearby Scarborough, our technicians, customer services representatives, and everyone else that works at that location lives and works in the area, too. Our neighbors are your neighbors, and we treat them that way.
As the Pine Tree State, Maine is known for having everything from cities to forests. Lebanon is no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our Scarborough, ME branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wooded areas around Gully Oven Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. bag of dog food! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Lebanon can help, including:
